Have You Disqualified Yourself to Receive the Prize?

11finishers_m4_43“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.  They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.  Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.  No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” 1 Cor. 10: 24-27

Application is key and while I do realize that not everyone reading this blog is necessarily going to embrace the Bible, I do want to share this message because I believe this applies to each and every one of us as human beings, regardless of our world view or life philosophy.

The pastor that delivered this message was invigorating and while he wasn’t necessarily speaking about network marketing, I am always looking for ways of sharing a message with you,  my readers,  that will inspire all of you to continue moving forward and run the race with determination and the kind of dedication it takes to win.

You see, those who are running this race must first have the desire to win.  But desire isn’t going to carry you to the finish line.  It takes discipline on your part to take action and do the activities that are necessary on a daily basis to push you forward.  Sometimes you will be stretched as a person and as a leader.   At times you may be challenged and there will be times when you might be emotionally afraid as you exercise your way to reaching the finish line.   In fact, there will even be times when you feel exhausted and frustrated, but you must continue moving forward if you intend to claim victory.

You must have the desire to win the race and the discipline to carry that desire through to the end. You must also have a determined spirit to press forward to the finish line.  It’s that determination that will give you laser focus.  While life happens, you will be able to see the bigger picture and press on in the midst of everything that is happening around you because you know where you are going and are taking action to reach your ultimate goal.  You will be like the race horse with blinders on, completely un-distracted.   You won’t make excuses as you keep your eyes on the prize.

There is also the aspect of self denial.  Have you ever stopped to take a look at yyour leaders?  Those who are running the race understand that there are going to be days when they don’t “feel” like working, yet they continue to move forward.  There is without certainly an element of sacrifice that comes with reaching your goals and sometimes that means denying yourself, keeping your head down and taking the action that is necessary to reach the finish line.

On a side note, I also want to challenge you to the realization that this really isn’t about you.  This is about helping others who are running with you and while I realize an athlete isn’t necessarily going to take an interest in helping others win, this certainly applies in network marketing.  This simple act demonstrates the character and without the character quality of putting others before yourself, you simply won’t win.  Every great leader who is laser focused on claiming victory will freely give to those who want to run alongside them.

While there is only one ‘winner’ in a competition, there will be many winners in this industry.  However, it isn’t going to be easy and the victory is certainly reserved for those who have the desire, exercise discipline, have the determination and have learned to deny themselves in order to help others along the way.  But above all,  it is your character as a leader that will allow you to shine and cross the finish line.

What Must Every Person Know About Character?

I enjoy reading and thought I would share a little excerpt out of a book
I’m reading by John C. Maxwell.   The book is called, ‘The 21 Indispensable
Qualities of a Leader’ and if you don’t already have this book……get it!

What Must Every Person Know About Character?

1. Character Is More Important than Talk
Anyone can say that he has integrity, but action is the real indicator of character. Your character determines who you are. Who you are determines what you see. What you see determines what you do. That’s why you can never separate a leader’s character from his actions. If a leader’s actions and intentions are continually working against each other, then look to his character to find out why.

2. Talent Is a Gift, but Character Is a Choice
We have no control over a lot of things in life. We don’t get to choose our parents. We don’t select the location or circumstances of our birth and upbringing. We don’t get to pick our talents or IQ. But we do choose our character. In fact, we create it every time we make choices – to cop out or dig out of a hard situation, to bend the truth or stand under the weight of it, to take the easy money or pay the price. As you live your life and make choices today, you are continuing to create your character.

3. Character Brings Lasting Success with People
True leadership always involves other people. (As the leadership proverbs says, if you think you’re leading and no one is following you, then you’re only taking a walk.) Followers do not trust leaders whose character they know to be flawed, and they will not continue following them.

4. Leaders Cannot Rise Above the Limitations of Their Character
Have you ever seen highly talented people suddenly fall apart when they achieved a certain level of success? The key to that phenomenon is character. Steven Berglas, a psychologist as Harvard Medical School and author of ‘The Success Syndrome’, says that people who achieve great heights but lack the bedrock character to sustain them through the stress are headed for disaster. He believes they are destined for one or more of the four A’s: arrogance, painful feelings of aloneness, destructive adventure-seeking, or adultery. Each is a terrible price to pay for weak character.

…..power packed little book that is a MUST read!

Successful vs. UNsuccessful

I read through some very enlightening information that I thought I would pass along to you
in my own words.

Not only was this enlightening but it was also very encouraging for me because I was able to
see clearly how my mindset has brought me to where I am at today.

This info deals directly with the thinking of an unsuccessful person verses the thinking of a
successful person.  There is no doubt in my mind that the unsuccessful person has to change
their mindset before they will ever move forward and achieve their dreams.  Their dreams
will remain a mere dream until they enter into a different way of thinking.

The UNsuccessful person will look at an opportunity or investment and think to themselves, “How much money do I have to spend?”   However……

The SUCCESSful person will look at an opportunity or investment and think to themselves, “How much money will I make in return for my investment and my time?”

The UNSuccessful person will think, “How do I make an instant $1,000?  I need money now!” But…..

The SUCCESSful person will think, “How can I turn this $20 into $100 monthly, then $250, then $500, then $1,000 and $10,000?

A person walks up to an UNsuccessful person and says with excitement, “Hey!  I know how you can make an extra $100 a month!”  The UNSuccessful person say, “Whatever, it’s only $100 bucks. I need to make more money than that.”    While….

When a person approaches a SUCCESSful person and says, “Check this out!  I can show you how to make an extra $100 bucks a month!”  The SUCCESSful person says, “Cool!  Can you show me how I can turn that into an extra $1,000?”

If you told an UNsuccessful person that they could take just $200 a month and turn it into $10,000 a month within 1 year if they worked hard and they were coachable, their response would be … “Within a year?  I don’t have that much time to waste! Who knows what’s going to happen within a year?”  However…..

The SUCCESSful person would say, “A year?  That’s it?  Let’s get started!  How much would I make in 2 years?”

The UNSuccessful person will see an item on sale that they don’t really need and even though they don’t have the money to purchase that item, they will just put in on credit and pay for it later. But….

The SUCCESSful person will save their money and pay cash for it.

The UNSuccessful person will join an MLM that doesn’t have a monthly autoship or service cost and hope that a truckload of people will be placed under them.  But….

The SUCCESSful person will join an MLM, come in with the largest start up package and pay the monthly autoship.  They’ll work hard and not expect anyone else to build their business for them.

In order for a person to be successful, they have to think correctly.  It’s our thinking that drives our behavior and our behavior that takes us where we are going to go.

The unsuccessful person wants everything today and isn’t willing to work for it,
invest in it or believe in themselves enough to move forward.  The successful person
understands that nothing happens overnight and they are willing to put down the money
and invest their time to get what they want for their future.

Both people want it now, however, the successful person knows it’s unrealistic
and demonstrates the patience, dedication and determination that is necessary for success.

WARNING: This May Offend People in MLM

I read something on Better Networker today that got me
thinking again and I wanted to share it with you.

The guy was basically saying that he has to laugh when
people ask him how much it’s going to cost them to
join him in his business.

I don’t have this happen as much as I did when I first started
but on occasion, I do have the occasional question.

It a nutshell, that question just reveals their mindset
and lets me know how I can direct them to help them.

People need to get their head on straight and think beyond
the money being spent each month to own their own business.

$100.00? $200.00? $300.00?

What’s the difference if you believe in yourself and know
you can push your business forward to create the lifestyle you desire?

In my opinion, ‘trust’ is a smoke screen for someone to hide behind
because they just don’t believe they have what it takes to move beyond
the monthly expenses that come with any business.

Don’t Just Dream….Dream BIG!

Stop Chasing Money and Start Adding Value

When I finally came to a place in my life and in my business
where I began to put people before products and before my pocketbook
….great things began to happen.

Offering free information means I’m adding value to others in this industry
and extending a helping hand without any hidden motives.

It’s about building relationships with people and encouraging them on their journey.

Along the way, I’ve met amazing people who have appreciated my help
and have joined me in my business. For those who haven’t joined me,
they know I am always here to help them whether they eventually join or not.

It’s about helping them……not about me.

I’ve truly appreciated the people who have come along side me and built me up
to be the person I am today. The coaching and mentoring I’ve received has been life changing.

I want to give that back to anyone and everyone who raises their hand.

It’s when we stop chasing the money and add value to others that the money comes.
That is freedom and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

You Know Your Financial Expectations are in Need of Adjustment If….

‘Dare to Dream and Work to Win’
by Dr. Tom Barrett
pg 72-74

You Know Your Financial Expectations are in Need of Adjustment if:

1)  You thought you could create wealth without hard work.

2)  You thought you could work this business on a part-time basis

but immediately receive a full-time income.

3)  You thought the top income earners in network marketing became wealthy

because of luck and good timing and not because of hard work.

4)  You thought you could grow your network marketing business,

become wealthy, and never experience any disappointment.

5)  You thought most of your family and friends would immediately

join you in your endeavor.

6)  You thought simple was the same thing as easy.

7)  You believed most Americans have a dream, and they are just

waiting for the right vehicle to make their dream a reality.

8)  You thought there would be no learning curve in this business.

9)  You expected every rep you sponsored to be a self-starter

and able to sustain his or her own focus.

10) You thought you could do this business alone and had no need

to plug yourself or your reps into any system.

11) You thought you could treat network marketing like a minor

hobby but have it pay you like a major business.

12) You thought you could work your business sporadically

but  have it grow steadily.

13) You thought you could merely play with your business,

but it would work for you.

14) You thought your company founders were giving people money

instead of an opportunity.

15) You thought you could build a business and never leave your

comfort zone.

16) You thought you could build your own multimillion-dollar

business by only working a few minutes a week.

17) You saw serious residual income but forgot that it takes

significant time and effort to build an organization that has

depth and duplication.

18) You thought you could make small investments of effort

in your business and reap huge revenues in return.

19) You thought you could grow a business and not have to

grow as a person.

20) You thought “no strain, no pain, no gain” only applied

to weight rooms.

21) You thought you could have success without sweat.

22) You thought you don’t need to be tough to triumph.

Here’s To YOUR Success!

Together We Will WIN!

Foundational Principles for Success

I was reading through ‘Dare to Dream and Work to Win’ by
Dr. Tom Barrett and ran across something that is very valuable
to anyone in network marketing who hasn’t seen much fruit from
their labor yet and is holding onto the hope that they will be able
to achieve their dreams of financial freedom.

This is just an excerpt from page 81. If you don’t have this book,
you should get it. It’s an easy read and packed full of great reminders
and insights.

Foundational Principles for Success

1) The three principles of network marketing are consistent effort,
duplication, and “give it enough time.” They remind us to work
steadily, replicate our efforts, and be patient.

2) Mama said there would be days like this. Stop fighting reality.
Accept it. Stay on-task.

3) This is a marathon, not a sprint. That is why a pack horse is
better than a race horse.

4) Success in network marketing is more about tenacity than talent.
No matter what, don’t quit.

5) Wealth comes from depth. Depth comes from duplication.
Duplication comes from having a system.   Keep the system simple.
Wealth is not accidental.

6) Measure time in the business like a pilot: hours logged. The one
who shows the most business presentations wins.

7) Stay in a resource state; get out of the problem state. Let the
certainty of future success provide joy, vigor, and confidence today.

8) Be your own worst boss. Associate with a positive reference group.

I think this is one of those pieces of information that just may deserve being
put on a note card and placed in our wallet for easy reference.

It’s so important to have something handy to continually remind us of where
we are going and how we are going to get there. The road isn’t always easy
but the final destination will be exhilarating for those who reach it!

Developing Your “WHY”

Before we begin, it’s important to clarify just exactly what is a ‘why’.

Your WHY is what motivates you and your reason for why you have chosen to change your life and choose the path you are on.

It’s critical to document your WHY on paper because you will find yourself needing to remind yourself WHY you started this journey in the first place.

  • When you first begin your journey, you will want to have a real clear picture of where you are going and WHY you want to get there.
  • When everything in your life is out of balance and seems like you’re walking in a whirlwind, you’ll want to remember your WHY.
  • When feelings of despair and defeat begin to rear their ugly head it will be critical to remember WHY you started this journey in the first place!
  • When you look around and everyone else seems to be succeeding and you don’t feel like you’ve got what it takes…..you’ll want to pull out your WHY and read it and believe you can achieve it!
  • When you put your best foot forward and have very little to show for it, you’ll want to remember WHY you’re striving so hard and keep dreaming.

Now the real fun begins as we walk though how to develop your WHY!

There are two very important aspects of developing your WHY and it’s important to really give it some thought to create a solid foundation.

1. What is your MOTIVATION?

2. WHY have you chosen your particular business?

What is your MOTIVATION? What made you decide you want to work at home? Many of us just want to start our own home based business for some very basic reasons. Perhaps you want to pay down your credit card debt, sign your kids up for activities, have some extra spending money, put your kids in private school or just have fun being able to have extra spending money you can call your own.

Basically, these are your goals and your goals are very important in developing your WHY.

I always suggest taking some time to figure out which goals are the most important and begin setting milestones for yourself. Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight. If anyone promises you big bucks in a hurry, you might need to consider running the other way because folks, it just doesn’t happen that way! This is real work!

Okay, so let’s move on to why you have chosen to work at home and the particular business you have decided to join!

I can not express this any more clearly. It’s important that you choose something that you believe in and are passionate about. When things may not go as planned, you have to fall back on your belief in what you are doing and love it!

Here’s a good start:

1. Are the products affordable?

2. Do you love the products?

3. Are there a variety of ways to earn an income?

4. Is there an established system or forum of people that help each other?

5. Is there a relatively low start up cost so others will want to partner with you?

6. Can you make money with this program?

Stay on track and keep focused! Regardless of where you are at in your business you will always want to remember WHY you started working at home and never allow anyone or any circumstance to rob you of your dream. Stay on track and work towards winning the race!

Every business is going to have it’s ups and downs. When times get tough, pull out the piece of paper you wrote your WHY down on and read it out loud. Share your WHY with someone close to you who will encourage you to continue on the path that will lead you to success. Give a copy of your WHY to your mentor and have them hold you accountable when you may be discouraged.

Working at home is a real business for those of us who choose to take it seriously. Hold your head up high and be proud of what you do and thankful that you’ve been blessed to be able to dream past the 9-5 corporate mentality and have the motivation to pursue the freedom of your dreams!
