Lil Wayne….Genius?

LilWayne_115606_08062008

Lil Wayne is nothing short of a legend with today’s youth and in the rapper / hip hop communities.

Being the mother of 3 teenage girls, I’m not immune to the latest craze and am all-too-familiar with Lil Wayne’s story.

I’ve got to be honest with you, I’m a sucker for a good beat and while I don’t always agree with the message, the guys got talent oozing from his pores.

Well, I was up late one night and I happened to walk in the room when there was a special documentary about the life of Lil Wayne.

At that time, I had never even seen the guy and I joined my starry-eyed kids.

The guy certainly doesn’t care what people think of him and it’s evidenced by every ounce of his body.  He is who he is and he isn’t moved by anybody.  But it wasn’t the story of his life that made me really sit up and pay attention that night.

There was one little mention of something that will forever stand out in my mind because it really shed light on the reality of who gets noticed and who fades away.

You see, Lil Wayne was driven to succeed and what he did to achieve that dream was what amazed me.

He knew he needed to be everywhere in this industry to really be noticed and that’s exactly what he did.

He put himself right in the middle of the action.  He began recording with other artists and right smack in the middle of it all, there was Lil Wayne doin’ his thing like only he knows how to do.

A person can barely even listen to a piece by a rapper or hip hop artist without hearing Lil Wayne.  He’s nothing short of genius!

Like him or hate him, it doesn’t matter.  He is who he is and he’s certainly made a name for himself doing something he loves to do.

As network marketers, we need to learn a very valuable lesson from this guy.  We need to be right in the middle of it all by placing ourselves there, raising our hand and rising to the occasion.  We need to not care what others think about us and live out our true authentic selves.

We need to be everywhere at once and with the internet, that IS possible!

Go out there and make yourself larger than life itself!

Nobody is going to do it for you.

You Know Your Upline Drank the MLM Kool-Aid When……

no-kool-aid

  • She PATROLS your home in search of products that are manufactured by ANOTHER company.
  • She tells you to HIDE all other brands when you have friends over, because you really don’t believe in the products if you have OTHER products in your home.
  • She tells your downline you aren’t a committed leader because you are tending to your dying grandmother rather than working your business.
  • She yells at you for missing the Saturday morning call because you chose to go to your daughter’s wedding.
  • She insists your company is not MLM, even though she is being paid on MULTI-levels.
  • She believes your company is not MLM, because the company told her it’s not.
  • She believes her company is the ONLY way to make a real residual income.
  • She believes with all her heart that anyone who doesn’t join her is an IDIOT & will never make it.
  • Her only friends are in her MLM company.
  • She doesn’t call you anymore if you don’t make the autoship.
  • She doesn’t have a life outside of her MLM.
  • She eats, sleeps, drinks and breathes……her company.
  • She goes to PTA meetings and soccer games with the intention of recruiting.
  • Life outside of her MLM doesn’t exist.

Sound funny?  Think again!  It’s no fun working with someone who drank the MLM Kook-Aid.

Career Choice Got You Down? Every Day is a Brand New Day!

My husband and I have been managing an oceanfront resort in Washington State since 1996. Having left corporate America, we have been fortunate enough to have been able to raise our children in the midst of managing the property. We’ve enjoyed our many experiences over the years, many of which have taught us some very valuable lessons.

One of these lessons was recently brought to my attention when my husband and I were able to find some time alone. He recalled a time when he had a conversation with one of our guests while working on the grounds. It was nearing the end of his workday, the sun was setting and he was tired but stopped momentarily to exchange a few words.

When our guests find out that we’ve been managing the property as a family, they typically express how great it would be to work at a resort. My husband explained to this gentleman how hard it can be to find help during the busy summer season and how taxing that can be on our family and personal life. After his little rant, the man looked at my husband in the eyes and said, “You’ve chosen to be here.”

That message still rings in my husband’s ears to this day. He’ll never forget those words and when he brought the story up to me again, it brought new meaning to my journey.

You see, we all make choices in our lifetime and many of those choices will effect us in our future, both positively and negatively. The great thing about the sun rising is that when we wake in the morning, we have a brand new day filled with brand new choices to make.

In essence, we are the author of our own story. We are the ones who make the choices to bring ourselves in the situations we find ourselves in today and we are the very ones who can make the choices that will get us out of our circumstances if they are unfavorable. It may not be as easy to back out as it was to drive in, but where there is a will there is a way.

In this case, I’m specifically referring to employment. I realize that there are situations that we all find ourselves in and we may wonder how in the world we got there and I’m not putting the blame on anyone in those particular situations. However, when we consider our employment and career choices, I believe we have a choice to stay where we are at or move in a completely different direction. Will it be an easy transition? Not likely. But well worth the decision if you are miserable in your current position.

I always start with this one question: “What do you love doing so much that you would be willing to do it every day without getting paid?” Ultimately, this is the center of who you are and your passion in life. If you can wrap your mind around doing something that you love and actually finding a creative way to make money doing it, you’ll never have to work another day in your life. Every day would be a pleasure because you would be living out your calling and your purpose.

So if you find yourself in a career that is far less than desirable and you are looking for a way to get out, just remember that change begins with you. Today is a brand new day!

Reality Road Trip

Photobucket

We’re getting ready to head down to Sunny SoCal for our Christmas vacation! Can’t wait as it’s been a few years since I’ve been to my hometown of Huntington Beach and it’ll be great to see my sister and her family.

Anyone who’s ever been on a vacation knows there is a lot of planning involved. My husband and I do a pretty good job of sharing the responsibilities when it comes right down to it. We both get a bit overwhelmed because we are leaving the business behind us and have to make sure all our “ducks” are in a row before we head on out of here. But all it all, three out of the four kids can pack for themselves and it’s really nice to give them that responsibility. It’s always great when we’ve got everything packed up and we head out of here, ready for the FUN ahead of us!

Anyway, in the midst of all the little tasks that have to be completed I was thinking about some of the things that are really important when planning for a trip.

1) Family Planning: Where are we going for vacation?
2) Road Map: How are we going to get there?
3) Compass: We often take this for granted but aren’t they nice to have when we are lost?
4) Money: It’s a must for any adventure if we want to have a really good time!
5) Food and Water: Gives us energy and keeps the little ones happy.
6) Diapers: For when things get really messy. (Well, we’re past that but you get my point)
7) Luggage: Pack carefully and don’t bring along too much baggage!
8) Calendar: It’s important to plan out what we’re going to do on the trip ahead of time.
9) Phone Book: Call me old school but it’s always good to have one on hand “just in case”.
10)Good Company: Love who you are with and it will make all the difference in the world!

Apply that to everyday life and business.

Where are you going?
How are you going to get there?
Who are you going to turn to when you get lost?
Do you have money to play with to have a really good time?
What are your resources to give you the energy and stamina you need to keep going?
How do you respond when things get really messy?
Have you learned to get rid of the “extra baggage”?
How are you doing on your calendar of events?
Who do you call when you’re in a tight spot or need a little boost?
Have you surrounded yourself with good company?

These things are all important when we are in business for ourselves. Planning is key and if we are going to get to where we want to go, we better write it down, partner up with people we love to be with and get ready for the ride of a lifetime!
